Countdown Numbers Solving Ideas
Countdown Numbers asks you to combine the given numbers with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to reach the target.
Each given number can be used at most once. Parentheses can be used freely as long as the final expression is valid.
Know the Target and Tiles
Start by reading the target and the six number tiles. The puzzle is not about using every operation; it is about creating one valid expression.
Look for Nearby Round Numbers
If the target is close to a round value, make the round value first and then adjust. For example, targets near 750 often suggest a 75 x 10 structure.
Use Large Tiles for Scale
Large tiles such as 25, 50, 75, or 100 can quickly create the main body of the expression. Small tiles can then add, subtract, or form factors.
Keep the Expression Readable
A shorter expression is easier to check and reproduce. If two routes both work, prefer the one that is clearer to read.
Check the Solver When Stuck
The solver can confirm whether a target and tile set has an exact solution. Use it after a round to compare routes and learn cleaner patterns.
